In an ongoing military operation in the West Bank, Israeli forces have engaged in a conflict with Palestinian militants, resulting in the death of at least two individuals. The operation, which began on Friday, is taking place in the Nur Shams area, near the Palestinian city of Tulkarm.
The Israeli military has reported that several militants have been neutralized and others detained, while at least four soldiers have sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. The Tulkarm Brigades group, comprising militants from various Palestinian factions, has confirmed that their fighters are still actively engaged in the conflict.
The Palestinian Health Ministry has verified the deaths of two individuals since the commencement of the operation in Nur Shams. This area is home to refugees from the 1948 war and their descendants. The fatalities include a gunman, as identified by Palestinian sources, and a 16-year-old schoolboy, as reported by Palestinian officials.
The West Bank has witnessed an escalation in violence, which was already on the rise prior to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza that started in October. The increase in violence is attributed to frequent Israeli raids, Palestinian street attacks, and rampages by Jewish settlers in Palestinian villages. The West Bank and Gaza are territories that the Palestinians are seeking for the establishment of an independent state. However, peace talks mediated by the U.S. have been stalled for the past decade.
